Sri Kamal
Chandra Sarma Bordoloi
(A short life-sketch)
Sri Kamal Chandra Bordoloi was born in a “Surjya-Bipras” family of North
Guwahati on 27th December of 1939, parents being Kumud Chandra Bordoloi, a
teacher and Surbarnalota Devi, a house-wife. His schooling was at North Guwahati,
Mangaldai and North Lakhimpur. He passed Matriculation examination in 1955.
He persued Civil Engineering Three Years’ Degree Course in Assam Civil
Engineering Institute, Chandmari, Guwahati from 1955. At that time, it was the
only Institute in Assam for Technical education either at Diploma or Degree
level. After obtaining the Diploma in 1958, he joined in Assam Public Works
Department (Road & Building) as Subordinate Engineer in 1958 and worked in
Barpeta, Boko and Guwahati. He studied privately Civil Engineering Course of
Section ‘A’ Examination of the Institution of Engineers(India) while working in
Assam PWD(R&B) and passed the examination. However, he could pass the Section
‘B’ examination of the Institution of Engineers(India) which is equivalent to
passing of B E examination. He has secured M.I.E(India) while serving as Senior
Instructor, Draughtsman(Civil) at Industrial Training Institute, Jorhat.
In 1968, he joined in Oil India Limited as Assistant Construction Engineer and
got successive promotions to retire as Chief Engineer(Civil) in 1997.
Besides his service career as Civil Engineer, Sri Bordoloi published few
Technical papers. He is very active in social spheres also. He was President of
Duliajan Namghar, Sarbajanin Kalibari at Anandapara and Moina Parijat of
Duliajan respectively. In literature fields, he was the President of Duliajan
Sahitya Sabha and Uttaran Kavi Chakra. He has two books of poems to his credit.
He also composes short-stories and articles on current topics.
His first monumental work is publishing of a book called
“Satadal”(Lotus),
a compilation of genealogical tables of Surjya-Bipras of Brahmaputra Valley of
Assam. He has also compiled and edited the
“History of Surjya-Bipras of
Assam” which is
awaiting publication.
